The team of the Kolkata Tigers won the toss and chose to bat. The opening was done by Das and Klusner. This is their favourite pair it seems and has remained unchanged and how so ever, it works too! Das scored 12 runs but Klusner scored 38 runs off 34 balls. After Das, it was Jhunjhunwala who managed to get a good score. He scored 62 runs off 57 runs and built up a good score for the team. Apart from him, only Singh and Gavaskar could score some runs and the team ended at 165 runs. AJ Hall managed a good bowling performance and obtained 3 wickets.
The Chandigarh Lions came in to bat after the break with Vincent and Elliot as openers. But by the end of seventh over, both openers and another player, Sarabjit Singh was already lost by the team. All these players left without much score and only 32 runs were scored. TP Singh was the highest scorer of the team with 34 runs on just 16 runs. A few other players managed to get close to the twenties mark but this proved insufficient to get the team a win against the Tigers. The Lions finished there innings at 143 runs and suffered a 22 run defeat at the hands of the Kolkata Tigers.
Ahmed and Jhunjhunwala from the Kolkata Tigers were jointly awarded Man of the Match, the former for his 4 wicket haul and the latter for his important 62 runs.
